A zero-waste certificate is not a document you obtain by placing bins and uploading photos; it is a system whose reality is checked on site by the certifying authority. Closing gaps before the application is faster and cheaper than fixing them afterwards.
What is done
Baseline survey. Building, headcount, waste types, existing bins and the collection layout are mapped.
Equipment plan. How many points, which colours and volumes of bin, and where the accumulation area sits. It is placement, not bin count, that determines the outcome.
Training. Staff are shown what goes where, with an attendance record. The training record is part of the application.
System registration and application. Data is entered into the relevant ministry system, the application is filed and the process is followed up.
Upkeep. After the certificate is issued, data entry, collection records and annual reporting continue — a system that is not kept alive makes the certificate meaningless.
Who is required to hold one
Public institutions, workplaces above a certain size, shopping centres, hotels, residential complexes, hospitals and educational institutions are in scope. Businesses outside the scope may join voluntarily.
